Wow! What a great month July was! Thanks to Sandra and all of our Hospitality Committee members we had enjoyed grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with far too many trimmings to list as we celebrated Independence Day. Then on the 29th the Hospitality Committee held an “Ice Cream Social / Wedding Shower / Baby Shower” combination. They supplied many delicious flavors of ice cream and even some frozen yogurt (in case someone was calorie conscience). AND again there were far too many tasty toppings, homemade cookies and cakes to mention. Lots of games were available for the young and the young at heart. As part of the social the committee asked the church to shower Rowdy and Kayla with gift cards for their upcoming wedding in September as well to welcome the soon to be birth of Karen and Pastor Tommy’s first grandchild. Our son Greg and his wife Margaret are expecting a baby girl due on September 12th and we are beyond excited. On behalf of Rowdy, Kayla, Greg, Margaret, Karen & myself; THANK YOU so very much for the wonderful evening and all the gifts.
But wait, something else happened on the 29th that was especially great. Marty and Bonnie joined our church by profession of faith in Jesus Christ in June and were baptized during the morning service on the July 29th followed by the observance of the Lord’s Supper. What a great day in the Lord and those of you who were here know exactly what I mean.
July also brought Vacation Bible School to our church. Sandy and Kayla took the lead in planning a wonderful and meaningful study for the children and us adults too! Thank you Sandy and Kayla for pulling this together and thank you to all who volunteered to teach, prepare food and serve in many ways. Hero Central was the theme and some of our local hero’s came and told how they served the city. Much thanks to the Gastonia Fire Department and the Gastonia Police Department for stopping by. The children of all ages enjoyed seeing the shiny red fire truck up close and getting to seeing “Recon the K9” in action. Ted, the bouncy house was a big hit with the children and even Captain America joined in cutting a flip or two.
July has passed and now we look forward to seeing what God is going to do in and through us in the upcoming days of August.
If you are new to the area or perhaps you do not have a church home I hope you will come visit with us this Sunday. We look forward to meeting you and as always, it is our privilege to welcome you to worship our Great God!
Nahum 1:7 7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.
