• Conclusion:  God Rules and He Reigns.  God is Sovereign.

“Finding Freedom”

• Point #1…People seek freedom by force.
• Point #2…People seek freedom through law.
• Point #3…Seek freedom through Christ.
• John 8:36…36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
• Galatians 5:1…1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
• Galatians 5:2…2 Mark my words!  I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
• Galatians 5:3…3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.

Conclusion: If you want freedom then seek it where it can be found.  Freedom is not in force, no matter how strong; freedom is not in law, no matter how good…freedom is only in Christ.

Point # 2 – The Nature of Eternal Life

John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

The world is the birthplace of natural life but the day of salvation is the birthday of eternal life.

Point # 3- The results of eteranl life.

2 Corinthians 5:10 says this, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Closing: There are two judgments… if you died this moment which would you face?

Jesus’ baptism and crucifixion and the testimony of the Spirit agree that eternal life is in Jesus.

Faith in the Son of God

• Hebrews 11:6 – 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists…

• Point #1 – It takes Faith to believe that Jesus is the Christ and is born of God vv 1-3.
• Point #2 – Who is it that overcomes the world… vv 4-5
• 1 John 5: 5 –5 Who is it that overcomes the world?  Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
• 1 John 4: 4 – 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
• 1 Cor. 15:57 – 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
•  Point #3 – God’s Testimony… vv 5-12
• Romans 8: 16 – 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
• Conclusion: Scripture makes it clear that we have eternal life through Jesus Christ.  

       To deny this truth one denies God’s testimony and therefore they call God

       a liar.

• Scripture -Ephesians 6:1-3 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother; which is the first commandment with a promise 3 so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy a long life on the earth.

• Point # 1 – Let Us Honor a Mother’s Sensitive Spirit.

• Luke 2:19 – 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

• Point #2 – Let Us Honor a Mother’s Faith.

God’s Love and Ours – Part 2

• The true Christian who acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God must live in love toward God as well as their brother and sister in Christ.

• 1 John 4:12…12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.   
• Point #2 – Since we have never seen Jesus, how can we testify that God sent His Son to be our Savior?

• Hebrews 9:27 – 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.

• Levi repents and follows Jesus. 

28 And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.

And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”

• Levi introduces his friends to Jesus.

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. 

• #2. Jesus confronts those who think they are righteous (vv. 30–32)
  
  
• Criticism from the self-righteous

30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 

• Confrontation of the self-righteous

• Two final questions:

1. Am I rejecting self-righteousness?

2. Am I rejoicing in the good news that Christ came to save sinners like me?

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

2 – The call of the cross for the believer means life – Romans 5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

1. A healthy church is devoted to Scripture (v. 42).

1 Timothy 4:13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

2. A healthy church is devoted to fellowship (v. 42, 44-45).

Unified fellowship

44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common.

Generous fellowship

45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love

3. A healthy church is devoted to worship (vv. 42-43, 46-47).

1. There is only ONE God; He made the heaven and earth.
2. There is only ONE God; He created all that was, is and ever will be.
3. There is only ONE God; He wants a relationship with you.
4. Will you consider the command; thou shall have NO other gods, your life.

“The Light of the World” – (John 8:12)

I. THE SAVIOR’S PRONOUNCEMENT

John 8:12, “I am the light of the world”

“We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.”

II. THE SAVIOR’S PROMISE

John 8:12, “Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Colossians 1:13-14 ¹³ He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, ¹⁴ in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

1 John 1:6-7 ⁶ If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. ⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

Are we following the light?

Luke 9:23 If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

“No healthy Christian ever chooses suffering; he chooses God’s will, as Jesus did, whether it means suffering or not.” – Oswald Chambers

#2 Persecution we may face.

Matthew 26:59 – The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

#3 – The Promise to enjoy.

Matthew 5:12 – Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven.

1 Corinthians 2:9 – However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him—

Matthew 5:12 – Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Conclusion: We can all be happy when our faithful service to the Lord brings persecution; why, because a faithless world has taken notice.

#2 – The purpose of peacemaking. – Romans 5:10 – “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” and Luke 13:3 – “….But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

# 3 – The promise of peacemaking. – John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

• 2 Corinthians 4:4 – ⁴ Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.  (NLT)

• Point 2 – Jesus Christ came as the Light of God to chase away the darkness of the world.

• Isaiah 9:2 – ² The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.  For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.]]  (NLT)

• Holy means to be separate or distinct. The word holy is used to make a reference to that which belongs to God.

#1 – The Lord God helps us through Effective Prayer. (James 5:16) – …the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 4:3) – When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives.

#2 – The Lord God assures us through His Promises. (Numbers 23:19) –

#3 – The Lord God calms us through His Personal Peace. (Joshua 1:5) – as with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you. (John 14:27); (Philippians 4:7) – And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

#4 – The Lord God assists us through His Power.

Conclusion: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
